Welcome to the new House && Home avenue of The Simple && Sweet Co.
This is our first Pinterest-DIY post, so it was only fitting that we tackle the classic “Sharpie Mug”.

I’ve tried doing the traditional sharpie mug before, and the issue I ran into was that the writing/design didn’t hold up in the dishwasher. Even if I hand washed the mugs, it faded overtime.
So, we revamped the technique!
(Great places to find cheap mugs: Ross, Wal-Mart, and Dollar Tree)
*Oil-based Car Touch Up Paint (Found at Walmart)
*Ball Point Pen
Step #1: Be Inspired!

Step #2: Disinfect.
Rinse your mug, dry it thoroughly, and use either Windex or acetone(nail polish remover) to make sure the surface welcomes your paint.
Step #3: Draft it!
Keep a paper towel around with your Windex, you’ll need it. Don’t skip this step. Don’t expect the ballpoint to be easy to write with, but it gives a nice idea.
Step #4: Trace it.
Aren’t you glad you drafted it? This step requires a steady hand. Be sure to pump the car paint (press the point down so that more paint is released) several times in-between strokes for bold lines. If you attempt too many strokes, the lines will hollow out in the middle. Take your time, this step is unforgiving.
Step #5: Baking time!
Don’t let the paint dry too much! This will keep the oil from permeating the ceramic surface.
Ok, before you turn the oven on, put the ceramics in on a baking sheet. It’s important that the mugs heat and cool along with the oven. Sudden temperature changes affect the strength of the ceramic.
Set the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and start the timer once the preheating beeping commences. Let them bake for 2 hours.
The same idea of heating and cooling slowly applies here. Simply turn off the oven and leave the mugs to cool in the warm sealed oven. Return in around 2-3 hours to remove them and Voila!
Step #6: Brew and celebrate!
